Bleak Housing

"Bleak Housing" is a study of housing needs and aspirations of ESPOPF members in retirement. It was undertaken by the ESPOPF Researchers in conjunction with Eastleigh Borough Council.

It describes the lack of available information and advice which can result in the reluctance of older people to face down-sizing and decisions about sheltered housing.

It highlights the reasons for moving, the desirable features of a new home, the perceptions of sheltered housing and assistance needed in decision-making.

The great majority of older people, 79%, would prefer two-bedroom bungalows with small gardens.
